This post is JUST what I needed. I, too, am training for another marathon. I, too, am running it because a first time marathoner, my friend Emily, asked me to run with her. I, too, have dreaded so long runs. I'm starting to think it's just a part of the process. I am thankful to say that I, too, have pushed through to train. My marathon is the same week as yours. Keep posting...fellow marathoner is reading :)

Thanks Corletta! It's good to hear people are still reading this blog. It's odd, I thought when I lost all the weight the scale wouldn't be a constant thought but apparently that is not the case. I guess I will always have one eye on the scale. I'm really glad to hear that my post helped!

First of all, your story amazes me!! I agree; if it's something that we can't handle we should work on handeling rather than avoiding the scale reading. Life happens. I have been victim of getting overly irritated with the number on the scale. Instead of allowing it to motivate me, it's given me fuel, in the past, to eat and not exercise. Shame on me! Anyways...thanks for your post! It's EXACTLY what I needed to hear today :)

Great job, Travis! I've done several half marathons with friends, and I have to say that running those longer races with someone else makes them much more enjoyable. Running needs to be FUN; it's easy to lose the joy of running when you do so many races in a year.

Thanks again Travis! As I said before, I don't know how I would have finished this without you. Legs are feeling much better and all I am left with is positive memories of my first marathon and a desire to do another one (yes, you were right about that too). Thanks for your message on the blog! I've been following yours for quite some time now.

Yeah it's amazing how the pain can sometimes feel good even though it's pain! I just need to keep the training going during the bad weather over winter. The marathon I'm training for is in Barcelona on the 25th March so I have a strict schedule to follow.

Hi Travis, I've been following your blog over the past year and a half and am a great admirer. Don't be so hard on yourself -- the difference in altitude makes a huge difference! I lived in Calgary for a while (at ~3000ft elevation) and when I moved to Vancouver I felt like I was flying when I initially went running. Then a few months later, I went back to the Rockies to go hiking -- and was so short of breath going up hills it was embarrassing. I'm not surprised Denver felt rough -- it really makes a difference.
You continue to inspire me, in any case!
